Sweethearts: The Timeless Love Affair -- On-Screen and Off -- Between Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, Updated Edition
Published in Paperback by Bell Harbour Press (01 January, 2002)
Author: Sharon Rich
Average review score:

Review of the book Sweethearts
I read both the first edition and most recent edition of Sweethearts. The first time I read it I thought it was very interesting. The second time I read it I had my doubts although I thought parts of it had to be true. I then read the newest edition and must say I think perhaps at least 85-90% of the book must be true. Most other books go over board to disprove the affair, however, Sharon Rich does have a lot of documentation. One thing that surpised me was the first book had a lot of mistakes in the words and thought the second edition would have been proof read better but it also had many mistakes. Watching some of the movies with Jeanette and Nelson did show them at different emotional stages, as the book suggest, however seems to be a stretch at times to read the same emotions as Rich suggest. There certainly was someting between them that they didn't have with other co stars and the fact that they can not seem to be separated even in the publics eye after all these years. At anyrate I obviously did enjoy the book if I read it 3 times.

Systems Programming With Modula-3 (Prentice Hall Series in Innovative Technology)
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (July, 1991)

Average review score:

Great medium-level book
This book is the perfect quick reference book for the more basic aspects of Modula-3, including the language definition and standard interfaces. It also includes good tutorials on Threads, Trestle, etc. for when you want to move further, and a jolly section at the end explaining some of the design decisions underlying Modula-3.

Talons: North American Birds of Prey
Published in Paperback by Johnson Books (April, 1989)
Authors: Millie Miller and Cyndi Nelson
Average review score:

Great quick reference book!!
The beautiful illustrations by the authors/illustrators are what first caught my eye. This pocket sized book makes it easy to identify birds in the wild, both with the drawings and the areas the birds generally spend their time. The descriptions of the species cover all the basics, like size and weight and distinguishing features. A MUST for anyone interested in raptors and more than well worth the price. :-)

It will bring every emotion to the surface!!
It is a collection of stories. Lee Nelson is a gifted writer whose works will be called "classics". He makes you believe the things that he writes, especially this one. He makes you laugh and cry and become the story. This is one of my top two favorites from him.

Technicolor: Race, Technology, and Everyday Life
Published in Paperback by New York University Press (May, 2001)
Authors: Alondra Nelson, Thuy Linh N. Tu, and Alicia Headlam Hines
Average review score:

Breaking new ground!
In all the relentess hype over the internet in the last 5 years, it's remarkable how little attention has been paid to the cultural and political factors that influence our understanding of new technologies. Maybe everyone was too obsessed with their stock options, or maybe people in this country are just oblivious to anything beyond what's right in front of their noses. At any rate, Technicolor provides a sorely needed alternative perspective on the information age. Did you know that lowriding is a fully articulated Chicano technological worldview? Did you realize that Detroit techno was soundtracking cyberspace when Moby was in diapers? Have you heard about cyber-vatos? Are you aware of the disparities in access that exist between rich white people and communities of color? Do you know how much sexist crap Asian American women online have to put up with? Questioning the tired narrative of the digital divide, this book mixes up politics, culture and techno-theory to brilliant effect. You might look at your computer a whole new way after you read it.

Thirty-First of February (Short Story Index Reprint Series)
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (June, 1949)
Author: Nelson Slade Bond
Average review score:

Perhaps author's best collection
Long out of print and never available in mass-market paperback, this book collects 13 of Bond's best stories, most of them science-fantasy. My particular favorites are "Pilgrimage" and "The Sportsman", a low-key but effective story about a riding club. Bond is a masterful story-teller, with a subtle and definite wit.
